HOLLYWOOD, CA, February 22, 2009-- An old dream finally became a reality in Hollywood this year. Sean Penn, the tough-as-nails, man's man actor who is best known for marrying Madonna and beating up photographers, was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actor this year for his portrayal of a heterosexual man who deeply cares about homosexual rights. His most impressive performances were noted by his deft ability to insist in speeches and interviews, with a straight face, that people who find homosexuality revolting are really hatemongers.
The Academy Award recognizes more than Sean Penn, the actor. In bestowing this award, the Academy also recognizes how Mr. Penn fulfilled some of the deepest wishes of the gay subculture. An mantra of faith to gays and their defenders has always been the "boomerang" tactic. When confronted by someone who plainly states that he finds homosexuality repugnant, gays often retort with the "boomerang" statement, "Well, you're probably gay yourself, and just suppressing it." Mr. Penn's performance, as a masculine, red-blooded American male who publicly associates himself with gays, represents the fullest realization of the homosexual fantasy, that in fact, every man is just as perverted as they are.
