Honorable Senators of the United States of America:

The Honorable Senators have successfully guided this nation through some of the most tumultuous events in its history.  Your Honors lead at the forefront of our states and our nation, and speak as the conscience of those who cherish government founded on freedom.

Today you may be called upon to cast a vote on a controversial Defense Authorization Bill.  This Bill contains language that would drive a wedge into the hearts of some of the bravest Americans.   A repeal of the military’s policy of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” regarding the sexual activity of its troops would amount to nothing less than officially designating deeply-rooted views about sexual morality to be no more than bigotry.

The Bible is not a source of authority for government power in the United States.  But neither are its principles inherently disqualified from being a source of guidance and direction of the choices of your Honored Senators in making our laws.

The Almighty Creator put the world in the hands of human beings to choose to govern as they see fit.  He made us different from the animals that obey the promptings of instinct, and not like machines that obey without resistance.  Human beings were given free choice so that choice, good choices, would be a struggle, a challenge, and, ultimately, the very thing that lifts up and secures a person honor and reward.   Part and parcel of this ability to choose is the ability to be wrong and choose foolishly.

Those who advocate for the public acceptance of homosexual behavior would have us believe that in one realm, the area of sexuality, there is no room for human choices.  They regard their sexual impulses and passions as singularly defining aspects of their personalities.  But make no mistake, our sexual behaviors, too, involve choices, and it is indeed possible for people to be prompted by their sexual desires to choose wrong.

The U.S. military contains extensive regulations on the conduct of servicemembers.  These rules transmit an ethos, a moral code of what is considered upright behavior.  Homosexual conduct destroys the vital potential of a person by wasting his or her most precious powers.  The glory of one’s most intimate contact should be channeled into relationships which can normally build a family.  Those who waste this precious power forfeit the great potential of their souls and condemn themselves to lives of fleeting value.

Please do everything in your power to fully renew this important policy which protects the moral caliber of our troops, and all Americans along with it.

Thank you for your wise and courageous leadership of this great nation.  May G-d Almighty give you success, protection and joy for your honest efforts to uphold the nobility of the human soul as taught by His eternal Torah.

Respectfully submitted,

PS.  Our organization, the Community Guardians’ Group, conducted a survey of the results of the Midterm 2010 elections, and found that 75% of Democratic Representatives who lost their seats had voted in favor of DADT repeal.  The analysis is available online at  http://www.zehjournal.com/guardiansreport112610.html.
